Danny’s musical background is based around Irish traditional music. His father was a box player from the west of Ireland and his uncle was a fiddle player. As a child, he was encouraged to pick up an accordion and join in their regular musical sessions at home.
He later became interested in English folk and played piano accordion and melodeon in a group called The Sheffield Collection. They appeared at clubs and venues around South Yorkshire and also ran folk clubs and sessions themselves in and around Sheffield.
Danny was a musician for the Handsworth Traditional Sword Dancers and Morris Men for many years and has played at festivals around the country. He was also box player for the side’s ceilidh band.
